Say Goodbye to Passwords with Base Single Sign-On

Think of all the passwords you have to remember on a daily basis: Gmail, Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, the list is endless. Wouldn’t it be great if you could login to Base without having to rack your brain for that password you made six months ago? We think so. That’s why we’re excited to announce our latest update to the login experience, Single Sign-On, available now on Base enterprise.

Single Sign-On (SSO) is a one-click corporate login that lets you sign in to Base using a third party identity. You would still use your Base email to log in to your account. The only difference is that a password would no longer be required since the authentication occurs through an external service. And for all our technical users out there, you’ll be happy to hear that our SSO uses the industry standard SAML authentication. This means our SSO supports many different Saas Identity Providers like Okta, OneLogin, Centrify and PingIdentity.

How to use SSO

Enabling SSO is easy, but keep in mind that it can only be done by account admins. In order to configure SSO for your entire account simply go to the app Settings, select “Single Sign On” and click on “Configure.” This will bring up two configuration options: automatic and manual. Automatic is the easiest configuration option because it only requires a URL to the metadata file from your Identity Provider. If you don’t have access to a metadata file or your Identity Provider can’t provide one, don’t sweat it. Click on the “manual” option and Base will tell you exactly which three pieces of information we need from your Identity Provider. Once the setup is complete on our end, Base will then display our configuration details so you can then relay that information back to your Identity Provider. This ensures that a two-way configuration sync is established between Base and your Identity Provider. And there you have it! You’re ready to use SSO on our web and mobile apps.

What SSO can do for you

SSO does more than simply remove the need to remember passwords. In fact using SSO can improve efficiency across many of your teams. Reps love it because SSO gives them one-click access to all of their apps, which saves time. Admins love it because it means they can manage user access to all of the company’s business apps in one place. And IT guys love it because SSO means higher security. It’s an all-around win.

We love to get feedback from our users, so take a look at SSO and let us know what you think below! Want to learn more about getting your team started with SSO? Head over to our support page for more details on the configuration and integration options.
